Ensemble Byron

Ensemble Byron is our virtuoso music group. This group has the aim of developing the ensemble performing skills of our best musicians and promoting the fantastic music work going on in school to a wider audience.

Children in years 3 to 6 who have been identified with a passion for music, and the dedication required to nurture their talents, will become members. These children will have instrumental lessons, or be members of the school choir, orchestra, jazz club or guitar club.

Children will attend additional lessons and rehearsals as required and will have the opportunity to perform in public within school and outside at other local and national venues.

In addition, children will also be offered the opportunity to attend concerts, so that they can experience the playing of professional musicians.

At a time when Music Education is facing difficulties in many schools across the country we are delighted that we can continue to offer excellent music opportunities to the pupils of Byron.

In the 2018 Ofsted report of the school the inspectors noted:

“Music is a strength of the school, with pupils taking part in an extensive range of musical activities”.

The 2022 Ofsted report noted:

"Leaders plan a range of enrichment opportunities. P upils learn different musical instrument s They participate in local musical performances and sing at the local hospital."

Further to this, we are excited to be a school in receipt of a Music Mark. In congratulating the school, Music Mark said:

“We would firstly like to thank you for all the hard work you and your colleagues do to ensure that pupils at your school are able to access and engage with a high-quality music education. Your dedication to offering and delivering a broad and balanced curriculum is both welcomed and celebrated. Music Mark works to enable our members, and the wider music education sector, to deliver high-quality musical and social outcomes for all children and young people. Our thanks for all that you are doing and will continue to do to support our collective vision.”

As a school who believe in the importance of working with others in our local community, we are proud to continue to support music education in other settings and enjoy our partnerships with the Thames Gateway Teaching School Hub, Icon Theatre, The Grange Festival, City of Rochester Symphony Orchestra, Kent Music, Kent Youth Jazz Orchestra, Dynamics (the Medway Music Education Hub), and Medway Music Association.

We will give you regular updates on Ensemble Byron through the newsletter, the school website and the dedicated twitter feed @EnsembleByron.
