As a member of the Kent and Medway Music Hub lead schools advisory group. We are very proud of our music tuition at Byron; we know the importance of music for children and the impact the subject has across their entire learning.
In the Foundation Stage children develop their creativity through a variety of child and adult initiated activities.
In Key Stage One children sing, play tuned and untuned percussion instruments and develop other musical skills such as listening and composing.
Every child in Key Stage 2 learns to play two musical instruments with specialist music teachers, alongside developing their music skills and knowledge; in Lower Key Stage 2 children learn to play the recorder, while in Upper Key Stage 2 children learn to play the ukulele.
Throughout the school children learn to use music technology as part of the music curriculum.
Once they reach Key Stage 2, children are able to learn to play other instruments with specialist teachers from Kent & Medway Music Hub.
We are excited to offer lessons in all the orchestral string instruments (violin, viola, cello and double bass), clarinet, saxophone, trumpet and trombone.
Instruments can be borrowed at no charge and the cost of the specialist music teacher lessons is funded by Kent and Medway Music Hub and the school, at no cost to parents.
Medway Music Association, offers extra-curricular opportunities, such as the chance to perform in concerts in Medway theatres and attend holiday courses which many of our musicians enjoy.
