Safeguarding children and protecting them from harm is everyone’s responsibility. Everyone who comes into contact with children and families has a role to play. Byron takes this role extremely seriously and our approach to safeguarding is underpinned by two key principles:
• a child-centred approach: for services to be effective they should be based on a clear understanding of the needs and views of children; and
• safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility: for services to be effective each professional and organisation should play their full part.
At Byron we fulfil these principles by always putting the needs of each individual child at the centre of what we do; working closely with other agencies to provide effective
Mr Carthy is the school's Designated Safeguarding Lead. This includes Prevent, Female Genital Mutilation and Forced Marriage.
Mr Chantler and Mrs Langthorne are Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads. Mrs Vella is the Senior Welfare Officer. All received updated DSL training at the end of 2017. Mrs Green and Mrs Parsons have also received the same level of training.
Mrs England is the Data Protection Officer for the Westbrook Trust.
